Penta CDX-5 is a tactile five-disc CD changer for iPad — load discs from your Apple Music library into a spinning carousel and play them the old-fashioned way.

Requirements

• iPad running iPadOS 17 or later. The app is iPad-only and runs in landscape.
• An Apple Music subscription for full-length playback and to browse your library. Without one, the app can't stream tracks.
• The first time you open the library, iOS asks permission to access your Apple Music library — this is required for the app to show your albums and play them.

Getting started

• Power on — tap the power button (top right). The deck runs a short self-test, just like the real thing.
• Open the Library — tap the LIBRARY tab on the left edge to browse your Apple Music albums.
• Load a disc — tap an album to open its jewel case, then drag the disc onto a carousel slot (or use the load button). Up to five discs at once.
• Play — use the transport bar to play, pause, skip, seek, shuffle, and repeat. Tap a disc-select number to jump between loaded discs.
• Save a set — the MAGAZINES tab lets you save a combination of five discs and reload the whole set later, like a saved cartridge.

Common questions

Why can't I play any music?

Full playback needs an active Apple Music subscription and library permission. If you tapped "Don't Allow" on the permission prompt, you can re-enable it in Settings › Penta CDX-5 › Media & Apple Music.

Does the app change my Apple Music library?

No. Penta CDX-5 only reads your library to show and play albums — it never adds, removes, or edits anything in Apple Music.

The level meters move but seem decorative — is that a bug?

Apple Music audio is protected and played out-of-process, so the app can't read the live signal to drive a true meter. The VU animation is cosmetic by design.

Can I use music I own (not Apple Music)?

Not yet — that's on the roadmap. Today the app plays from your Apple Music library.
